HISTORY OF BLINMAN
The township of Blinman was surveyed in 1864 following the discovery of copper by a shepherd, Robert ‘Pegleg’ Blinman in 1859. However, it was too far from the mines so in 1867 the township of Blinman North was established.
At the height of the mining industry the population was around 1,000 with houses extending along the road from Blinman South to Blinman North. The mine was eventually closed in 1918 after producing 10,000 tonnes of copper.
Blinman's population now numbers less than 25.
